Bliss is Saved
We got our Marco Polo system for our senior border collie, Bliss, when a relative’s senior dog wandered off and was lost. It was just in time. We live in a heavily wooded mountainous area near a river tributary. One evening Bliss didn’t show up for dinner. Without Marco Polo we never would have found her. Not realizing her arthritic limitations, she had attempted to hike down a very familiar but steep slope. She tumbled down over the edge of a near vertical drop to the edge of the river and was amongst some large boulders on a small sandbank and couldn’t get back up. We spent several hours past sunset in the pitch black rigging a climbing harness for her and lifting her back up from the drop. In her younger days she would not have taken the tumble and, given a similar situation would have been able to swim to a place where she could have climbed back up. In her condition however it would have been a miserable death.
